| Welcome to Angkor Wat one of the largest temple complexes in the world. | |||
Sights to See |
The temples of Angkor Wat were built from 879 to 1191 AD, when the
Khmer civilization was at the height of its development. The temple
complex represents an astonishing and enduring architectural
achievement. From the great citadel of Angkor, the kings of the Khmer
empire ruled over a vast domain that reached from what is now southern
Vietnam to Yunnan, China and from Vietnam westward to the Bay of
Bengal. The hundred or so structures that remain at Angkor Wat are all religious temples, owing to the fact that all the other buildings, such as homes, public buildings and palaces, were constructed of wood, which did not survive the decay of the humid jungle climate. Your exploration of one of the temples of Ankgor Wat will be closely supervised. We insist that young explorers follow the instructions of their guides exactly. |
||
Local Fauna |
Beware of wild boars that inhabit the temple ruins. They're not extremely dangerous creatures, but their nasty disposition can cause their share of abrasions.
Souvenirs
|
You may find assorted items that previous explorers have dropped, but you will find no artifacts of reknown.
Hidden Treasures |
There are eight secrets scattered throughout the temple in the form of gold skulls. They are not hidden with extreme care, and so are fairly easy to find. If you obtain all eight, your pride may lead you to a riskier road. We recommend that novices leave the last skull behind and hunbly choose the path of virtue.
Hazards |
There is only one real-life threatening hazard, which are spikes that either shoot out of the floor or are already extended from the floor. Your guide will disable any spike traps that are still active, and you need only be careful and not run into the rest of them.
