Lud's Gate |
Items: 68 |
Kills: 20 |
|
| Below the tracks of London's Underground are the sewers and what remains of the oldest parts of London. Welcome to Lud's Gate. | |||
Sights to See |
According on the Mabinogion, a collection of twelve tales written
around the thirteenth century, Lludd was the eldest son of Beli the
Great, the son of Manogan. Lludd was a legendary ruler of the Island
of Britain after the death of Beli, he favored London (Lwndrys) over
all the other cities in the kingdom. Lud's Gate is part of the old Roman walls and is located around the Embankment area of the City and has never been excavated. As the centuries past, newer parts of London were built over the older, and now Lud's Gate is deep within the bowels of the City. You will find that there is no pretense about this place and it is definitely not intended to receive tourists. Since you're here, you should be aware of what you're getting yourself into to. Just above is London's Museum of Natural History. Be sure to stop in at the museum for a visit. They have a wonderful Egyptology department. In fact the museum has shipped over entire Egyptian tombs brick by brick and rebuilt them on the premises for research purposes. If you fall into favor with the dwellers of the sewers, they will show you the way into the sub-basement of the tower block of a cosmetics factory, which is currently under reconstruction. This large cosmetics company is using parts of this area for storage and housing of their larger machinery. There will be a lot of swimming, so look for some underwater propulsion units to get you around faster. |

Museum Guards / Urban Life / Sewer Workers |
You'll run into some more of those gang members, but having agreed to help them out, they won't be aggressive toward you. However, watch out for the museum guards. They're not some mild mannered rent-a-cop that one might expect, but instead they're armed with high powered hand guns. The fact that the museum guards and the thugs guarding the sewers are dressed in the same uniform should arouse your suspicions about what the relationship between the two are. In the sewers, you will also encounter some divers, armed with high power harpoon guns.
Local Fauna |
You may have thought they were just urban legends, but there are crocodiles in these sewers. Believe us, they're real.
Souvenirs
|
There are two items that should be of particular interest to you. The first is the embalming fluid that the gang leader wants you to retrieve. If you bring it back to them, they will lead you to the sewers, however, if you find your own way down to the sewer, then you don't need it. The other item is the key to access a panel in the boiler room.
Hidden Treasures |
This level is packed with secrets. There are six of them. The first two appear so early in the level, you might whiz right past them. The third and fourth are placed in, more or less, plain sight. The remaining two are underwater. Good luck on the last one, because there are several goons guarding it. If they spot you, they'll close it off before you can get to it.
Hazards |
In the museum portion of this level, your greatest concern is falling to your death. The slightest misstep will send you careening off of some ledge or slope and into oblivion. In the sewer portion of this level, you will find that your biggest danger is running out of air. Of course there's still opportunities to fall to your death, but they can be readily avoided.
Bug Alert |
There are two places where you might encounter the "invisible wall" bug. The bug is not fatal, and can be worked around. Please read footnote number 5 in the walkthrough for this level.
