Crash Site |
Items: 30 |
Kills: 60 |
| Crash Site is another relatively short and straightforward level. There different areas around the crash site can be done in any order, but these hints are organized in the order that you would encounter them if you hit each area in turn (as we did in our walkthrough). | |||
Swamp Cartography
In case you weren't paying attention in the last cut-scene, the Australian commander handed you a map for crossing the swamp. What's unfortunate is that the map isn't too clear, and it can be quite hard to follow. Since this is early in the game yet, it suffices to say that a little trial and error will get you across the swamp. If you examine the map very very carefully, you might be able to make it across on your first try.
Nose Dive
The first area to investigate near the crash site is near the nose of the cargo plane. The object you're looking for is easy to find and pick up. The question is, "Can you get out with it?"
Pesky Scavengers
Near the cargo plane you might find a dark passage. There's nothing critical to be found in there. It's actually an elaborate trap, but one that's easy to survive. To get out, you'll need to find the two levers that open the gates.
Feed the Fish
Near the tail of the cargo plane, you will find a passage that leads to another area. Don't try to cross the bridge. It will only dump you into piranha-infested waters. Check to see if there isn't something you can use to keep the piranha occupied.
Unsafe Heights
Well, you probably figured you need to get up into the trees. There are some vines that you can climb on one of the rock walls near the the mouth of the tunnel. Just watch yourself, because it's dangerous up there, and that's not merely due to the height.
Long Reach
Got no knife to sever the rope? No levers? No buttons? Go with what you do have, and let me just tell you, a flare is not going to burn through the rope.
Leverage
There's a gate that leads into the dark temple. As you probably guessed, the lever that opens it is nearby. It's not up in the heights of the trees. It's not around the ground level. There's only one other place to check.
Greater Leverage
Once inside the dark temple, you'll find yourself trapped inside a room with three levers. You know what to do with levers, but be ready for consequences after you pull those levers. Soon you'll have access to the platform above. Before picking up the key, search your memory for what happened the last time you picked up one of these keys.
Start Your Engines
With both keys, it's time to make your way into the cargo plane. There's a hole on top of the plane to get inside, and two paths to get inside. One is very very short, and the other is very very long. Your only reward for going the long route is a crystal and some Uzi clips.
Handle With Care
The long way of getting around to the top of the cargo plane involves getting to the handles on the underside of the tree branch. You may have a difficult time getting to the tree at all. If you're facing the plane, you need to find the small hill behind the tree to the left of the plane. That will gain you access to a couple of ledges and in turn the tree.
Roundabout
Once you get to the high ledge, you might get stuck once again. To get to the top of the plane you need to climb back down. That may seem strange, but when you get to the bottom of the rock face, don't let go. Explore some other options.
Swinging Singles
When Lara comes the hand-over-hand bars, things get messy. Let go when she gets to the small tunnel so she can examine the situation in the room beyond. There are four sets of wooden gates that are controlled by three switches in the room. You will be able see one switch as soon as you get into the room, but will not be able to reach it directly. Look for the first lever to let you get close to the switch. It's nearby and get familiar with what it does, because you'll need to throw it once more.
New Tricks
When you get to the wall to the right of the second lever, you'll probably wonder what you're supposed to do now. Your hint is that the wall directly ahead of the end of the monkey bars is scalable. Lara doesn't automatically put her feet up onto the footholds on walls when she's adjacent to it. Perhaps you can convince her to let go of the monkey bars and grab onto the rock face.
One Down, One To Go
With the one trapdoor raised, you're only one more wooden platform away from clearing this playground from hell. You will be able to see the platform on which the third switch is located if you stand on the platform in the center of the room and look down and to the left. To get there you'll need to move that first lever back and also use that new trick you just learned once more. Get as close to the bottom of it as possible, or else Lara's headed down the drain.
Fire It Up
Once inside the plane, it's just a matter of firing up the power, dropping the cargo bay doors, and moving the rocket launcher out the back of the plane. When you go out to the rocket launcher, then the fun really starts.
Vandalism
You need to use the rocket launcher to do a little vandalism to exit this level. What are you supposed to vandalize? Scan around the crash site and look for the one thing any self-respecting vandal couldn't resist defacing.
