Temple Ruins |
Items: 51 |
Kills: 30 |
| Welcome to the Temple Ruins. Of course you've ignored all advice to stay away from this house of horrors. Well, if you find yourself stuck, here are a few tips to send you on your way. | |||
Watch Your Step
You'll encounter a few new creatures in this level, but watch out for the cobra. If you get poisoned you'll need to use a Medi Pack to heal yourself or you'll die a slow and painful death. Cobra hide in dark tunnels and in tall grass, but they're big, so watch where you're going.
Wet or Dry
After exploring the little forest, you can either drop into the water and take a quick swim with some hungry fish, or you can find a lever that lets you proceed another way. Your choice.
Don't Feed the Fish
Another pool full of piranha. You haven't had to deal with them yet, and this is no time to start. Check out that brick column in the middle of the pond. There's a way to get to it.
Enter Here
The next part is fairly straightforward. Find your way around the courtyard to return to the stream outside. A few jumps and a little shimmying and you should clear the waterfalls. Finally a little crawl into a dark snake-infested cave. The last thing you'll need to do , before taking the long slide down into the darkness, is take a quick look up at the top of the slope before you go down. Light a flare if necessary. It will make it very clear where you need to position Lara.
No Way Out
After sliding down to a dark room which contains a Shiva statue, many people get stuck and can't figure out what to do next. Look around at the corners of the room. One of them is a movable block. You should know what to do with blocks.
Living Monument
After locating the block in the first room with the Shiva statue, you will need to do a little crawling to get into the next room. There you'll find that the second Shiva statue you encounter will be less sedentary in comparison to the previous one. You can run around the room and take the beast down, but there's a great place in that room to take pot shots at the Shiva from. Just remember that the Shiva doesn't take any damage when it holds its swords in front of itself as a shield. You'll need to tease the beast a little.
Decisions, Decisions
Two gates. Go left or go right. It doesn't matter. You'll end up back here in this room anyways. The next set of hints assumes that you went to the right where the tunnel ends at a pool of mud, because we think it's the harder route so you might as well get it over with. There's no reason why you should pick one way over the other. If you go the other way skip down to the "No Lifeguard On Duty" hint and come back to the following hints later.
Mud Bath
Quicksand inside the temple? The interior decorator needs to be fired. Well, it's possible to clear the little mud pool without taking damage. The slightly higher road is on the right beyond the bend in the tunnel. At worst, Lara will run out of air and take a little damage as she wades through the muck. Just keep pressing forward. When Lara reaches the big mud slide in the next room, don't bother trying to climb to the top, just turn around part way up to find where you must go next.
Unwelcome
Indeed the next lever opens a door to a very unwelcoming scene. It's dark and hard to see, so allow us to fill you in on the details. The trapped corridor consists of two blocks of spiked walls, followed by a horizontal swinging blade, followed by two more blocks of spiked walls. We have verified that it is possible to clear the trap without taking damage. It's tricky, but now that you know what the layout is, you can practice in the long hallway outside. Stay in the middle of the corridor when you're trying to get through.
Ups and Downs
Life is full of them. Here's a brief one. In order to drop down into the pool in the center of the structure, you will need to find a lever and a movable block to get up to the top of the structure.
It Takes Two
Like that funky song goes, "It takes two to make a thing go right." In this case, after opening one underwater gate with an underwater lever. It will take two underwater levers to open the trapdoor in the corridor.
Out of Reach
The lever in the next room is out of reach. Of course there is a way to get up to it. You just can see it. Dive into the pool and pull the two underwater levers on the sides of the pool to shed some light on this situation. The solution is pretty cool. You will need to do a running jump and grab to get to the nearest one.
Isn't This Familiar?
Haven't we seen this somewhere before? You step inside, and the door closes behind you. There's a lever and a spiked wall. It's pretty clear what's going to happen next. Only this time there's no alcove to jump into. Well, look around. Beyond the large double gates is the goal. Here's where that speed dash will come in handy. Just do everything quick, and it should all work out. There's no tricks, you just need to plot out your course carefully before you pull that lever.
Another Mud Bath
The roof has caved in and filled the pool with mud and quicksand. Just be aware that the roof isn't done caving in yet. Just hug the walls. In the tunnel beyond, it's clear that the boulder is just waiting to flatten you. Well, it will start rolling when you step up to the second step. Maybe you should do some rolling and running away too.
More Tough Choices
Two doors open, and you must choose. Although the two paths physically lead to the same place, one path will be much easier than the other. Yup, life is full of tough choices, and all you need to do is make the right choice.
No Lifeguard On Duty
Head through the left gate from the second Shiva room, and you'll find a few monkeys, and a depression in the ground. Don't waste you're time there, because that thing in the depression isn't a lever, it's an underwater lever. In the next room, are more of those fire breathing statues. With a couple of careful jumps, you should be able to get past without so much as a singe. The far lever opens the underwater gate. Just watch for poison darts in the tunnel. Also watch out in the next room. This temple isn't called "ruins" for nothing.
Ladder to Success
Next part involves some climbing. There's a ladder that leads to nowhere, but a back flip off the ladder will solve that. Now it's a matter of traversing the ledges along the walls of the tall room. They're all reachable. You just need to be good at judging the distance. Sometimes you'll need to take running jumps. Sometimes it will be standing jumps. When you get to the tunnel at the top, don't let your guard down yet. That rumbling sound will warn you of a familiar danger.
All Blocked Up
The darts and swinging blades are easy enough to crawl under. If you're not observant, you will think you're stuck. That raised step in the right corner should give you a clue. But there isn't just one block in that corner there are four! Don't just push that second block through to the caves beyond and think that your work is done. You're goal was to find some way to flood the dry pool you came across earlier, and it's behind those blocks. Rearrange the blocks right and you'll find what you're looking for. With the pool flooded, you can head back to collect that key you spied earlier.
Rock and Roll
Next trap is apparent. You just need to know where to go. There's a spiked pit further down the ramp. Look carefully and you should be able to figure out which side of the ramp Lara needs to be on.
Claustrophobia
Ever get that feeling that the ceiling is closing in on you? Well, if you've used the two keys back in the Shiva room, then you're not crazy. The ceiling is actually closing in. Get up there in a hurry!
Closed to the Public
Another pair of closed giant doors. There are two levers high above the room. You just need to get to those ledges. There's a movable block that will give you the boost you need.
Double Trouble
In the next room Lara has three Shiva statues. You get to fight with two of them. After downing both of them, you'll notice that each one drops a scimitar. Well, those swords belong to someone else in this room. If you return them, then you get to move on.
Encore!
If the performance of the last two Shiva statues were not to your liking, there is one last statue for you to deal with in the next room. After you take him out, you will have free access to the items lying around. Don't worry about those other fellows. They won't be causing anyone any trouble.
In a Pinch
Almost done. Only two more keys to collect. The next one can be found in a room with a spiked ceiling. What you need to do is once again obvious. You need to pull two levers. Do you think there's not enough time to get to and pull both and get out with your hide intact? Well, it's possible. You just need to move faster. Speed dash is not the right move for this little tiny room. But a few well placed jumps while the ceiling is still high can shave off the seconds you need.
A Current Affair
One final puzzle for you. You can see the key through a hole, in the water below, but as soon as you drop in, the water currents suck you into a spiked wall. Fight as you like, you can't out-swim the current. Instead, you just need to get past the regions of the pool where the current is dragging Lara. There are two underwater levers that you must pull. Each one is located in the farthest corner of the room. That means you'll need to cross the path of the deadly currents twice before you can collect the final key and get out of here.
