Highland Fling |
Items: 46 |
Kills: 24 |
| You've just arrived for your Highland Fling. This level is expansive, but can be finished in a hurry. Read on for hints. | |||
Size Doesn't Matter
The grounds surrounding Willard's castle is quite expansive. If you are interested in making an attempt for every single item you spot, you're in for a long level. If you focus on the goal, you can be done in no time. We'll give you a few hints, but we'll be focusing on finishing this level. If you want all the items, you should read our walkthrough for this level.
Gate Crasher
In order to do anything at all, you need to get past the front gate. You won't be able to open the gate, so if you can't go through or around, you're left with going over. Get used to spotting the scalable vegetation, because there's lots more of it later.
Riding the Rapids
Drop into the water and you'll be going for a swim. Your first destination will be the small wooden dock. From there you'll be able to make your way up to the large bridge.
Long or Short
At this point you have a few choices. You can do a lot of exploring of the area surrounding the bridge to find lots of items. Most of the items that you see from the bridge can be reached if you start from the bridge. We're not going bother to give you any hints for obtaining those items. That's what our walkthrough is for.
Actual Progress
When you're done searching for items or if you've decided to skip them, then you should make your way to the guard tower to the right of the bridge when you're facing the castle. A jump will get you across to the tower and a little more exploration will reveal a pool with a few items and a switch. The switch opens a timed gate at the end of the bridge. After throwing the lever, you'll have to hurry through the gate.
Mud Bath
After dealing with enemies make your way to the courtyard outside where Lara will find a field of mud with a marker stone in the middle of it. A few jumps will get Lara to the marker stone. Look for the coat of arms mounted on the outside wall of the castle. Take a jump into the mud just below the coat of arms and wade forward into the structure.
Halfway There
Make your way out of the mud and through the tunnels. After a little climbing, Lara eventually find a high alcove with the first of two artifacts. Once Lara has found the artifact, grab the vegetation on the ceiling of the area and eventually, Lara can make her way to an opening that drops her back onto the bridge.
Door Number Two
Now you need to visit the second tower. Another jump will get Lara into this tower, but both the jump into the tower and the exit from the tower will be a little tricky. Once inside the tower, you'll find another lever that activates another timed gate. To get back to the bridge from the tower, you'll have to slide out of the ramp on the side and take a jump to the bridge before Lara drops to the ground. The only trick here is to keep Lara on the left side of the slope to avoid bumping your head when you attempt to jump to the bridge.
Upward Bound
Once inside the second gate, make your way outside, and up the steps. Eventually, you'll make your way to another part of the castle. A little climbing should get you to a high ledge that appears to lead nowhere. There's a small ledge to the right that you can just barely reach. A little fancy climbing and jumping should get you to that ledge that juts out over the middle of the structure. Keep climbing until Lara climbs up onto the roof of the tower, where you wil find the second of two artifacts.
Plug and Play
Back into the structure, and take a jump to the opening that leads to a ramp that drops you back at the stone steps. At the bottom of the stone steps and just inside the structure, you'll find the receptacles for the two artifacts you've just retrieved
