| When Lara begins her deep sea dive, she will be just outside the Russian nuclear submarine in the Extreme Depth Suit, or EDS, which is equipped with ten chaff flares. The EDS also has an underwater propulsion backpack and a high-powered chest-mounted halogen lamp to light up the ocean floor ahead. Angle the EDS downward slightly and pilot the EDS forward toward the two clumps of seaweed directly ahead, away from the Russian sub. Directly ahead is a large rock formation. | |||
SECRET #1

Turn right to circle around it. Ahead Lara will encounter a small
deepsea submersible (1) which will launch small torpedoes. Lara can
deploy chaff flares as decoys for the torpedoes or just keep moving
around to avoid the torpedoes. Circle around counterclockwise, keeping the outside wall of the undersea canyon at Lara's right hand to avoid the mini-sub. After Lara zips past a large section of the undersea canyon, she will pass over a large yellow rusty section of the sunken U-boat that has settled on the ocean floor. After Lara crosses over the U-boat below, dive down and locate a small undersea cave. Drive the EDS into the small cave and pick up a gold rose (1), which is SECRET #1. Turn the EDS around and exit the cave. Drive it out and circle the EDS around clockwise, avoiding the deep sea submersible. Return to the intersection of undersea canyons where Lara can see the Russian sub. Lara may experience some difficulty returning to this area ahead because of an undersea current pushing her back towards the enemy mini-sub. However, continue to drive the EDS forward and it will overcome the current. |

Take the left fork of the undersea canyon and follow it as it curves
around to the right. Ahead Lara will encounter another Russian
deepsea submersible (2). Angle Lara slightly to the right and circle around counterclockwise, keeping the outside wall of the undersea canyon at Lara's right hand to avoid the mini-sub. When Lara is halfway around the undersea canyon, she will cross over a large yellow rusty hull of the sunken U-boat on the ocean floor. After Lara crosses over the U-boat below, angle the EDS to the left and head toward a narrow channel in the rocks at the far back corner of the wide undersea canyon. When Lara is in the little channel in the rocks, turn right and follow the narrow channel until she must turn left. Ahead is another wide undersea canyon with the largest section of the sunken German U-boat lying at the bottom, as well as another Russian deepsea submersible (3). Angle the EDS slightly to the left after exiting the narrow channel. Quickly pilot the EDS forward and dive into the opening in the top of the U-boat wreckage. Be careful not to overshoot the opening of the U-boat or a strong current will sweep Lara back towards the Russian nuclear submarine. Dive the EDS to the bottom of the wreckage. Level it out and turn it to the left until Lara can spot a small square opening behind a triangular section of wreckage. Quickly pilot the EDS into the opening to avoid the torpedoes of the Russian deep sea submersible above. Angle the EDS upward and exit this chamber through the opening ahead and above on the other side of this chamber. Angle the EDS to the right and cross the next chamber. Exit through the opening ahead and turn left. Pilot the EDS forward slightly and turn right. Exit this chamber through the square opening ahead. Lara pilots the EDS into the chamber and hovers over the crate for a moment. She dives down and opens the crate and produces the artifact. The wooden shaft of the spear has long since eroded in this underwater resting place, but the spearhead is still fully intact. She declares, "Ah who could believe it." She tucks the spear away. Of course her good fortune is short lived, as removing the spearhead seems to have triggered an undersea earthquake which rocks the U-boat. Wreckage falls from the ceiling and hits the EDS. "Puncture!" Lara exclaims, "Time to leave."(follow plot) |

Spear of Destiny
|
With the Spear of Destiny (2) in hand and
the aqualung of the EDS broken, Lara must now rush back to the Russian
sub because of her limited oxygen supply. Drive the EDS forward and
exit through the square opening and angle the EDS to the
right. Cross the next chamber and exit through the square opening at the far side near the top of the chamber. Angle Lara to the right and pilot the EDS through the next chamber and exit through the next square opening. Turn the EDS to the left and dive down. Pilot the EDS through another square opening near the bottom of the chamber, and quickly turn the EDS upward. Drive the EDS upward and when Lara is clear of the wreckage, circle around to the right. Keep in mind that the Russian deep sea submersible is still waiting for Lara outside. Locate the Russian submarine in the distance and head straight toward it. Lara will find an undersea canyon that she was unable to traverse before due to the strong currents. This path will allow Lara to avoid one of the submersibles. Follow the canyon and allow the currents to sweep Lara along. When Lara passes two clumps of seaweed, pilot the EDS forward a little more and she will be back at the large rock formation that creates the intersection of the undersea canyons. Turn the EDS to the right and pilot it past the two clumps of seaweed and head toward the Russian submarine. Reenter the dive chamber and turn the EDS upward to reenter the dive chamber of the sub. |
