| Allow Lara to slide down the ramp into the caverns below. Run forward, past the two torches, into the narrow passage ahead. Run forward through the first chamber of the catacombs. | |||
SECRET #1
|
At the next chamber, turn right and locate the wall with the iron ring mounted on it. Push the wall forward twice to reveal a secret passage. Turn right, run forward, and turn left. Pick up the gold rose(1), which is SECRET #1. Reverse roll, angle Lara to the right and exit this secret chamber and turn right. | ||

Proceed through the second catacomb and continue forward until the
tunnel widens. Proceed into the hallway ahead. The floor will
begin to collapse away to reveal a pit of lava below. Quickly run
forward and take a running jump to clear the gap ahead, grabbing the
ledge as necessary. If Lara isn't hanging from the edge of the pit, hop backwards and grab the edge of the pit. Shimmy to the left until Lara shimmies around the corner and is hanging from a crawlspace in the adjacent wall1. Pull up into a crouched position and crawl forward. Turn around and have Lara lower herself into the short tunnel below. Turn left, run forward and press the button on the wall to open a door elsewhere. Reverse roll, run forward and turn left. Jump up and grab the crawlspace. Pull up into a crouched position and crawl forward. Turn around and have Lara lower herself out of the crawlspace. Shimmy to the right until Lara shimmies around the corner. Pull up and run forward into the next chamber with the metal grate in the floor. Turn right and enter the opening ahead. Turn left and follow the tunnel as it bends to the left. Draw pistols and step forward onto the ramp. Lara will slide down the ramp and land on a ramp heading down to the left. Run forward and kill a lion (1) that Lara had seen from the chamber above. Kill it by firing and charging at the lion, jump over it, reverse roll and repeating. After the lion is dead, run over to the button on the wall opposite the door with the circular barred window to open that door. Immediately reverse roll and draw pistols to open fire on another lion (2) that will be released into the chamber. Repeat the process of charging, firing and jumping over the lion to kill it. |

Gemstone Piece #1
|
After the lion falls, enter the chamber that the second lion emerged
from and climb up the ladder. Backflip over the opening that Lara
just climb up and turn around. Run forward and pick up the Gemstone
Piece (2) from the pedestal between the
two candles. Reverse roll, draw pistols, and run forward. Jump over the opening that Lara just climbed out of. Enter the chamber ahead and turn left. Another door will open as Lara enters, releasing a gladiator (3) into the chamber. Open fire and take side flips to the right as the gladiator charges. Lara should be able to take him down before he gets close enough to attack. Enter the tunnel that the gladiator emerged from and pick up a small Medi Pack (3). Reverse roll and exit the tunnel. Run forward, past the column in the middle of the chamber and turn left. Run up the ramp, draw pistols and turn left. Open fire on another gladiator (4) that will emerge from a tunnel ahead. Take side flips to the left when he approaches and again Lara should be able to take him down before he is close enough to attack. Enter the tunnel that the second gladiator emerged from and pick up a pair of Uzi clips2 (4). Push the button to open a door two levels above. Reverse roll and exit this tunnel. Angle Lara to the left and run up the ramp. At the top of the ramp turn right and run forward past the column. Run up the ramp ahead and draw pistols. When Lara reaches the uppermost level turn right . A lion (5) and another gladiator (6) will emerge from the opening ahead and to the left. Open fire on them and side flip to the right down the ramp when they get too close. Neither the lion nor the gladiator will run very far down the ramp. Side flip back up the ramp to lure them back out and repeat until both are dead. When it's safe, continue to the top of the ramp. Turn right, run forward and turn left. Enter the chamber that the last gladiator emerged from and continue to the far end of the chamber. |

Uzi
|
Turn left and enter the room ahead. Turn left and run to the far end
of this inner chamber to pick up the Uzi's (5) and a large Medi Pack (6). Exit this chamber and return to the outer
chamber. Turn right and return to the upper ledge. Turn right and run to the corner of the ledge. Turn left and run down the ramp. Turn right and run through the opening ahead. Run across the stone ledge to the platform that is suspended in the middle of the chamber. Turn left and take a running jump to the ledge below with the rope. Lara should not take any damage when she lands. Walk forward past the rope ahead, and turn around so that Lara is facing the platform that she just jumped down from but is ready to pull the rope. Pulling the rope three times will fully raise a pedestal in the middle of the platform in the center of the chamber, but Lara will only have a limited time to get back up to the high platform. |

Gemstone Piece #2
|
Pull the rope three times and quickly side flip to the right. Lara
will land on a slope and slide back down to some steps. Turn left
and take a running jump up onto the a ledge ahead. Run forward and
take a running jump to the sloping stone ledge ahead. Take a running
jump off the end of the ledge and grab onto the rock ledge that juts
from the wall ahead. Pull up, turn left, run forward and turn left
again. Take a running jump off the end of this ledge and grab the
central platform. Pull up, run forward and quickly collect the second
Gemstone Piece (7). Turn right and walk forward toward the closed door with the circular barred window. The door and the gate beyond will open automatically as Lara approaches, but when Lara steps through the doorway, the gate will slam shut. Step forward toward the gate and a trapdoor will drop open, dumping Lara onto a slope below. Lara will slide down the ramp and drop to a slope below. She takes an ungraceful tumble down the slope but manages to grab the edge of the slope before falling over the edge into the deep pit below. As Lara dangles precariously by her fingertips, a smug Pierre ambles up to the edge of the pit. "Hmm... an unfortunate situation, no?" Pierre asks cheerfully. "I've had worse," Lara answers slowly. "Indeed. Indeed," Pierre nods. "This is a very deep pit and in this, such an historic venue, I feel sure there may be valuable artifacts lurking in its depths." "I can't tempt you to jump down and take a look?" Lara asks sarcastically. "Well, this is my point: I feel you may be better qualified to examine its secrets," Pierre declares lazily. "Unless you - perish the thought - expired in the fall. Perhaps if you lighten your load a little it may lessen the impact," Pierre suggests. "The stone you carry?" "Wondered when you'd get to that," Lara adds. "Pull me up and the stone is yours." "And we all live happily ever after?" Pierre asks warily. "I think not." Pierre looks down at Lara's big hazel eyes and has a change of heart. He allows his hormones to win over his better judgment and tells her, "Give me your word that once you leave the pit you will not lay a finger on me." "You have my word," Lara promises. Pierre stoops down to offer his hand, but with a strong grip on his Magnums and his aim still trained on Lara's head. In order to obtain better leverage, he sits down on the ledge and pulls her up over the edge of the pit. Lara crawls up past him. Pierre stands and turns around. He decides to collect on his favor, "The stone?" Lara walks slowly up to him, getting closer and closer. He attempts to remind Lara of their bargain, "Now, now, Miss Croft, you gave me your word. Come now Lara. Lara, you promised." Lara puckers her lips as her face draws near his face. "Boo!" Pierre is startled by her and slips backwards, falling off the edge of the ledge. He manages to grab onto the ledge. Finding that their situations have been reversed, he asks, "Could you find it in your heart to help me up? I appear to be slipping." Lara looks down at him and says sweetly, "Pierre, you know nothing would please me more, but we have an agreement." "Agreement?" Pierre puzzles. "Not to lay a finger on you. Remember, silly?" Lara shrugs, "Anyway, busy girl, got to go." Lara turns to walk away. Pierre begins to loose is grip and is about to start begging, "But I..." Lara can hear Pierre let out a scream, and land with a thump and a moan. "Don't let me hold you up," Lara tells him.(follow plot) |

SECRET #2
|
Turn right and walk back to the spot where Lara was talking to Pierre.
Turn left and face away from the edge of the pit. Hop backwards and
hang from the edge of the ledge. Shimmy to the right until Lara
reaches the part of the ledge that is less steeply inclined. Pull up
and turn right. Run forward and pull up into the opening in the wall. Run forward up the slope, underneath the thin rock ledge. Vault up onto the higher ledge ahead. Run forward and turn left. Run underneath thin rock ledge until Lara reaches the sloping stone column. Jump up and grab the upper edge of the ledge and pull up onto it. Run forward to the edge. Turn left and take a running jump and grab the ledge opposite the central platform. Pull up, turn left, and take a running jump and grab to the central platform and pull up. Turn right and run back to the opening that Lara stepped through earlier. As Lara approaches the trapdoors the gate ahead will reopen. Take a running jump over the two open trapdoors into the chamber ahead. Run forward, turn right, and take the gold rose (8), which is SECRET #2, from the pedestal. Turn around, walk forward, and turn left to return to the gate. Take a standing jump over the trapdoors and grab the edge of the pit. Shimmy to the left and release to drop to the ramp below. Allow Lara to slide backwards down the left side of the ramp and grab the bottom of the edge. Safety drop to the slope below. Turn right and take a jump down to the brick ledge below. |

Gemstone
|
Turn and run up the ramp toward the closed door with the circular
barred window. The door will open automatically as Lara approaches
it. Run forward and combine the two gemstone pieces to form the
Gemstone3. Run forward and place the gemstone into the receptacle. The gemstone will rotate in its receptacle and soon the floor will crumble away, revealing a pit of lava below. Immediately reverse roll, and run forward, taking a jump to land on a small ledge below the door that Lara entered through. Reverse roll4 and take a running jump over the lava pit to land in a alcove in the wall. Take a hop backwards and grab onto the edge of the alcove and shimmy to the left. Continue shimmying around the corner until Lara reaches the end of the crevice. Release when Lara is over a rock ledge. Reverse roll, run forward and turn right to enter the next chamber. Run to the other end of the chamber and vault up onto the ledge. Vault up onto the platform and turn right. Walk forward to the edge of the platform. Pull up, reverse roll, and draw pistols. Open fire on a lion (7) and a gladiator (8) that attack. When they get too close, run forward or jump forward back into the opening. Jump up and down while firing until they both run away and then repeat this process until both enemies fall. |

Coliseum Key #1
|
Climb back up to through the hole if Lara isn't on the upper level. Run to where the gladiator fell and pick up the first Coliseum Key (9). Run toward the large double doors and place the key into the lock to the left of the double doors to open them. | ||
Centurion
|
When the double doors open, a iron statue of a centurion that is armed with a powerful hammer will come to life, and step down off of the platform that it was standing on. The platform will lower to prevent Lara from using it as a safe spot. Draw a powerful weapon, turn right and open fire on the iron Centurion (9). As it approaches, take a few backflips to keep some distance between the iron centurion and Lara. If the iron centurion smashes its hammer down, it will create a shock wave that will inflict damage. When Lara is past the columns in the previous room, take a side flip to the right and drop back through the hole that Lara climbed up earlier. Back Lara up against the wall and open fire on the iron centurion until it falls. | ||
Coliseum Key #2
|
Climb back out of the hole, turn right and run forward, through the
double doors. Run to the other end of the room and climb up into the
doorway that will open when the guardian falls. Run forward and turn
left. Take the second Coliseum Key (10)
from the pedestal. Reverse roll, run forward, and turn right. Run through the opening and drop to the floor outside. Run forward and turn left to face a second set of double doors. Use the second key in the lock to the right of the double doors to open them. Step through the double doors and slide down the ramp. Lara will be dumped onto a second ramp that slides down and to the left, and finally drop Lara onto a ledge below. Lara has now returned to the building that houses the Philosopher's Stone. |

SECRET #3
|
Ignore the Philosopher's Stone in the weblike lattice for now. Turn
right and side step to the right until Lara is I the middle of the
ledge. Take a running jump over to the ledge ahead. Spikes will
shoot up out of the floor of the pit below as Lara jumps over. Take a running jump over the pit ahead and grab the ledge. More spikes will shoot up out of the floor of the pit below as Lara clears the pit. Pull up and run forward. Lara is now where the front doors of the building used to be. It appears that the whole building has sunk into the earth and the doors no longer lead to the outside. Crouch down and crawl forward into a small opening ahead. Stand up when the crawlspace widens to a tunnel. Run forward and turn left. Run forward and pick up a gold rose(11), which is SECRET #3. Reverse roll, run forward, and turn right. Crouch down and crawl back through the crawlspace. Take a running jump over the spiked pit and grab onto the ledge ahead. Pull up and take a running jump back to the golden ledge ahead. |

Pry the Philosopher's Stone (12) from the
wall using the crowbar. Lara wields the glowing and humming stone in front of her admiringly. It's light grows so brightly Lara has to put on her sunglasses. Back to the present in the Croft Manor, Lara's three friends are gathered around the table. "And so ended the first of many," Winston punctuates. "I'm sure Miss Croft would be the first to apologize for her not entirely courteous behavior regarding some of the more delicate religious artifacts." Winston turns to Father Dunstan, "Father Patrick?" "No, need my friend," Father Dunstan raises hand and smiles. He waves off Winston's surrogate apology and shakes his head. "All in a good cause. At least we knew they were in secure hands. And fortunately, the church was above sending a bullet-proof envoy to retrieve them." He turns and casts a glance at Jean-Yves. "Ah, but she recognized her place in the great scheme," Jean-Yves explains. "Some things, as history has illustrated, are best left to their slumber." Father Dunstan and Winston exchange puzzled looks. Winston leans forward interestedly. Jean-Yves chuckles, "I speak in riddles. I talk of the stricken wolf ship." Jean-Yves gestures to a picture of a German U-boat on the wall above and to the right of the hearth. "Ah, yes," Winston nods, suddenly catching on. "The U-boat episode. Miss Croft would never enlighten me as to the details. For my own protection, she would often stress." "Indeed, Winston," Jean-Yves agrees. "And for this you should be grateful." Their collective memories enter the dark cramped hallways of a German submarine. German seamen pass each other in the tight quarters. "Deep in the bowels of their vessels lay one of the most powerful artifacts in all Christendom. An artifact which, when wielded at the vanguard of an army, would make that army invincible." Behind bulkhead doors in a storage room, lies a few crates. One small unseeming crate glows and bumps up and down. "The Spear of Destiny5," Father Dunstan whispers reverently. "But the boat never reached the fatherland with its precious cargo," Jean-Yves explains. "It disappeared from radar three weeks into the journey," his voice grows deep and menacing. The U-boat is aground on a undersea trench on the sea floor, near the edge of a deep trench. Its captain and four seamen have boarded themselves in the torpedo room. The captain stands in front of racks of torpedoes, while one of the sailors vainly attempts to contact help. The broken radio yields only static, squeals and pops. A bright unnatural light leaks beneath the bulkhead door. Soon the whole door glows and panic washes over one of the sailors. The light shoots through the small round window and blows rivets off of the bulkhead door. The sailors draw their weapons and take aim. When panic wins, they open fire. "Mein Gott!" They shout. As they fire, their bullets ricochets around the room, hitting some of the men and pinging off of the torpedoes. The captain repeatedly yells, "Nein!" Attempting to stop his men, but its too late. It's unclear whether it was the unknown force or the stray bullets that take down the sailors, but the torpedoes explode, blowing the conning tower off of the U-boat. "So," Jean-Yves continues. "This is the resting place of the fifty-two seamen, and also something much more sinister."(follow plot) |
